Brixham Heritage Trail gets the go ahead
Exciting News! Brixham Heritage Trail gets the go-ahead with £8,100 Heritage Lottery Funded Grant!
The BrixFest committee in partnership with local organisations have received a substantial grant to launch an ambitious project to gather Brixham residents' stories, memories and historical artefacts and produce an innovative Brixham Heritage Trail. A free printed brochure, an interactive mobile application produced by South Devon College Students and a database website will form the base of the project, with outreach activities and a Live Heritage Day at BrixFest 2017 extending the reach into the community. A short film produced by Emberlense Productions and premiered at English Riviera Film Festival will be the cherry on top of the metaphorical cake!
Brixham is a town full of fish and chips, glorious beaches, fabulous community events and absolutely phenomenal coastline: but what it's most rich in, is history! Whether we talk about famous hymns written while watching the sunrise, or the culture surrounding Britain's most profitable fishing port: the red sails in the sunset, or caverns hiding thousands of years of secrets, every corner of our wonderful town is packed full of fascinating heritage. This heritage is something we're particularly good at celebrating - but what we're not so great at (as a community), is capturing memories and saving them for future generations to enjoy and to marvel at. Fortunately, the folks at The Heritage Lottery Fund also reckon Brixham and her citizens have memories worth keeping! A grant has been approved and the work begins! The BrixFest committee members alongside representatives from South Devon College, Brixham Chamber of Commerce and individuals in the wider Torbay Community are gathering together to organise Brixham Heritage Trail. The trail will guide visitors around the town from point of interest, to point of interest. The Brixham Heritage Trail will call upon recorded memories and stories contributed by local members of the communities. If you have some memories, pictures, recordings or stories to share: please let us know.
